Under 19’s 1st Semi Final Old Brighton v Old Scotch

3rd September 2022

The u/19s First Semi Final began at 7am at Jamie Freeman’s house where we met for a team breakfast of eggs , bacon, sausages and bread. The lads certainly appreciated the gesture and the assistance of Tania Tanner and Sandy Kay. From there we motored on down to Elsternwick Park for a 9.20 clash with Old Scotch who had beaten us twice throughout the year so it was certainly game on.

Scotch got out of the blocks really well but a late fight back by our boys saw a quarter time lead to Scotch of 4 goals to 2.

Our second quarter saw us respond with a 4 goals to 1 quarter  and a half time lead of 7 points.

The second half was great finals footy, contested ball and physicality being the order of the day. Controversy occurred when Scotch was gifted a double goal in the third quarter and when a Brighton goal was overruled in the last quarter it appeared that the gods were against us. But this team never accept defeat and a goal on the siren saw The Tonner conquer by 9 points, a gutsy finals victory.

This Sunday at Elsternwick Park we play Williamstown at 9.20 before the Seniors take on Collegians at 2.15 so get down to Elsternwick Park and support the lads.

Goals: Bortolussi, Hathway 2, Brooks, Hill, Gray, Agg, Dimmatina, Galanpoulos 1

Best: Gray, Burnell, Howard, Fisher, Wood, Bortolussi
